What is the Economic Espionage Act, and how does it affect CI?
What are the laws regarding CI data collection?
When is a CI act illegal?

Attorney and CI expert Richard Horowitz explains the basics of CI collection techniques and the legal validity of CI. Topics to be discussed include what is a “gray zone,” and whether it is legal to overhear a competitor on an airplane, or to misidentify oneself as a student.  The presentation also explains why abiding by the ethical standard will spare CI professionals and their companies potential legal problems and will explain why the Economic Espionage Act does not affect CI activities that are practiced in an ethical manner.

Speaker
Richard Horowitz
is an attorney concentrating in corporate, international, and security matters. He holds a private investigator’s license and served in the Israel Defense Forces attaining the rank of captain. Mr. Horowitz is the author of SCIP's Policy Analysis on Competitive Intelligence and the Economic Espionage Act, has advised SCIP on the revision of its Code of Ethics, and is a frequent speaker at SCIP conventions and chapter meetings. 

In addition to speaking on legal aspects of competitive intelligence and corporate policies, Mr. Horowitz frequently speaks on topics such as terrorism and money laundering and has spoken at conferences in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, The Cayman Islands, The Czech Republic, England, France, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Uruguay.
