SCIP Training:

Introduction to Competitive Analysis

Description
Introduction to CI Analysis is a two-day workshop offering the three steps required for successful intelligence analysis. Using a combination of lecture and case study work, the course will present tools and methods for intelligence problem definition and scoping, specific analytic methodologies, and a template for effective intelligence delivery. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to experiment with the tools and methods presented, and consider how to apply them to their CI positions.

Participants will learn to:
Work with their intelligence users to define intelligence problems and scope intelligence projects:
Frame analytic questions in a way that anticipates customer interest rather than simply responding to it
Take an inductive approach to intelligence analysis
Know how to identify key trends and associated indicators

Perform competing hypotheses analysis
Organize and display argument mapping analytic tools
Write effective thesis statements to organize intelligence analysis
Produce intelligence reports that are useful to intelligence consumers
Allocate one’s time to best anticipate key consumer needs

Performing successful intelligence analysis requires analysts to:
Identify or anticipate the questions
Answer them rigorously
Deliver the answers effectively
