Since publication of my original glossary in the Down Under column [Competitive Intelligence Review, Volumes 9(2), 9(3), 9(4), and 10(1)], a great deal of progress has been made in the closely related fields of business intelligence and knowledge management. Hence this updated version, in addition to being more comprehensive, incorporates many additional definitions as well as significant corrections and amendments. New entries for this 26 February 2009 update are indicated by an asterisk (*).

Once again no attempt has been made to ascribe authorship. In the vast majority of cases it would be an almost impossible task because so many definitions have been derived from a wide variety of sources and either clarified, combined, modified, or refined, as appropriate, in an effort to attain consensus.

I hope that this glossary will help my colleagues, particularly those new to the profession, to understand what it is we are talking about.
