New interactive team activity  debuts  at the 22nd Annual SCIP European Summit

This year’s SCIP European Conference featured a new and highly interactive team activity, The “I” Factor CI Challenge. This event’s challenge was to create a work plan for a Scenario Planning session. Using a current event topic around new regulations for electric vehicles, two teams worked collaboratively to map a three month process leading up to the Scenario Planning session. The task was to establish the scenario planning components they would use for their session. This included identifying which competitors to consider, what market trends would drive the scenarios, building an agenda for the session, and identifying Key Intelligence Topics and Key Intelligence Questions they would use to drive the session discussions.

One team was tasked with playing the role of Peugeot, a leading European auto manufacturer, while the other team worked at ZF transmissions, a leader in automotive transmissions. Both teams used real-world CI tools to create their work plans and leveraged the SCIP conference setting. Throughout, participants attended regular conference sessions and workshops. They also engaged in discussions with peers during networking sessions and talk with exhibitors about how to plan for a scenario planning event. By attending regular conference sessions, interacting with speakers and exhibitors, the participant learned more about the range of tools and services available to support CI professionals and developed skills that would help them complete the assignment.

At the final session of the conference, the teams presented their work plan to a five judge panel who used the opportunity to probe around key points in the plan and share insights into how it would work in the real world. In the end, the Peugeot team produced the best work outline for the scenario planning event. Their outline clearly identified the steps they would take to prepare and execute a scenario planning session and for bonus points they included some examples of likely scenarios for the session.

Our congratulations to Team Peugeot:

Simon Baxter (Fujitsu UK)
Daniel Sáez-Domingo (Instituto Technologicio de Informatica
Razvan Grigorescu (MasterCons)

The team members each won a pass to either the SCIP Annual conference in Orlando (May 2018) or the SCIP European conference (Prague November 2018).
