Starting and Managing a CI Function

September 28 - 29, 2010

Register now!

This two day course is designed to help attendees learn how to develop and implement a CI function that avoids generating more nice-to-know information, and instead helps participants envision, develop, staff, resource, maintain, and, most importantly, benefit from, a CI function that offers true decision-support and insights with the active participation of company decision-makers.

Starting and Managing a CI Function

Tuesday, September 28 - Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Embassy Suites    Alexandria-Old Town

As no two CI functions are alike, it is important that individuals embarking on the development of a CI program learn how to:  Build a business case for their company’s new CI function and win executive approval. Identify the unique intelligence requirements of the company and understand how those requirements influence CI function organization, design, placement, and staffing.  Learn the unique aspects of managing the CI function, including enforcing legal and ethical guidelines and measuring the CI function’s value. Course attendees will leave with a sound basis for developing a CI function for their companies that will allow them to avoid common mis-steps, and design a function that reflects their companies’ unique needs and circumstances.

The outline of the course roughly follows the components of the CI cycle. We will be discussing how to develop an internal CI capability that addresses needs identification and CI operations planning, intelligence collection from published and human sources, intelligence analysis, and the communication of intelligence findings. We will also touch on intelligence technologies and legal and ethical aspects of intelligence operations. The focus of the course is NOT to train participants on each of these components, but to instruct them on how to build an internal CI competency within their organization. Please note:  Participants will need to bring note-taking paper, pens and highlighters to class.
