SCIP 200 Boot Camp

Building an Integrative Competitive Intelligence Program to Drive Strategic Results and Corporate Performance

This two day workshop is designed to ensure CI program leaders, analysts and the growth executive clients they serve all align around the primary mission that unites all CI practitioners with the companies where they work: GROWTH.

Day 1: Understanding the Secrets to Sustainable Growth
Day one begins with learning a new, integrative framework to understand how to anticipate and choose strategic growth outcomes while managing industry risks predictably. You (and ideally, your CI client or consumer) will learn how to tailor and adapt these strategies, also known as, "growth curves" to the overall strategy of the corporation and its various businesses. Starting with planned outcomes and working backward through future milestones enables CI practitioners to help decision makers choose more wisely and confidently from a broader range of options at every level of the company. We close day one learning how the growth framework fits into traditional CI doctrine, such as Key Intelligence Topics and Questions (KITs/KIQs) and how to automate more routine tasks associated with the old CI cycle so analysts can concentrate on their two central value creation skills: analysis and synthesis.

Day 2: Planting the Seeds for Your CI Program to Become the Growth Engine
Day two begins with each participant deciding which real competitive opportunity or challenge from their business to apply the lessons, methods, and systems learned on day one. We will specifically design each system for every participant's differing circumstances by choosing which aspects they'll need to implement and evolve their CI function when they return to the office.

Key Outcomes:
1. Return to the office with a tailored plan for implementing or transforming your CI program in your company; you get a plan, not just abstract theory and generic suggestions.
2. Learn the critical process cycle to move from Inquiry to Insight to Intuition to Influence in order to drive strategic change at all levels; CI programs that don't, will not survive the next business cycle budget realignment.
3. Master the philosophical foundations of deconstructing market problems with analytical methodology and then synthesizing diverse perspectives on the truth to create an unfair advantage unique to your company... and your future career wherever you choose to go next.

Who Should Attend:
- Corporate competitive intelligence leaders and analyst teams (from beginner to advanced)
- CI clients and decision makers
- Startup founders
- R&D/innovation scientists
- Strategy/M&A teams
- Sales and marketing pros
- Technical engineers

About Your Workshop Leader:

Arik Johnson ( is Founder and Chairman of Aurora WDC and Managing Director of the Centers for Open Reconnaissance. As a SCIP board of directors member from 2004-2007, Arik served as chairman of the annual conference program committee (2006), development committee chair of the CI Foundation (2007-2009) and has won both the Catalyst Award (2005) and been selected as a member of the Council of Competitive Intelligence Fellows (2008). He is the originator of the Angles of Attack Algorithm, a meta-analysis framework to predict and plan for industry change by designing intentional growth strategies which remove the inherent fragilities in any company's business model. A History graduate of the University of Wisconsin Madison, Arik concentrates his time as a worldwide ambassador of CI to leaders of corporations and startups of all kinds. Most recently he has been experimenting with a new startup resiliency program called RECONVERGE:DEMO(lition) which puts startup founders through a business model makeover to transform their company from promising to irresistible. Beginning in 2019, Arik will bring startup accelerators into U.S. secondary education institutions to provide young adults choices beyond the university default for America's best and brightest.
