In today’s hyper-competitive generic industry, companies decide to target a product for development very early in its lifecycle – sometimes even before it has been approved. This makes traditional sources of information like Drug Master Files, ANDAs and other information way too late for any useful competitive intelligence purposes.

This session examines why it is crucial for competitive intelligence and lifecycle management professionals to regularly and actively review the activities of companies developing generic active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) as the earliest and most reliable indicator of future generic competition for their, or their competitor’s products.

Mike Chace-Ortiz is responsible for setting and implementing the strategy for the long-term development of Thomson Reuters Newport Sourcing, Global and Premium products serving both generic and innovator pharmaceutical companies. In this role he works closely with customers to understand their current and future needs and ensures that our offerings are able to adapt and respond as appropriate, maximizing their business value and capabilities.

Chace-Ortiz joined Newport Strategies in 2003 as New Business Development Director, and became Product Specialist following the acquisition of Newport Strategies by Thomson Reuters in 2004. He rejoined the API Intelligence business in 2008 after two years working as a consultant in the Pharma/Chemistry Custom Solutions Team.
